" I said it before and I will say it again - Dion you were 20 years ahead of your time when you coached me" ... "recently I watched you improve an entire team's passing by more than 75% in just two practices."  Bruce Stafford former Ryerson player and captain. Former Girls Head Coach Ryerson University. Girls Head Coach Seneca College. President Aurora Storm Volleyball Club

"My skills have improved by leaps and bounds.I have improved more in the past few months than in my whole high school volleyball career and previous OVA experience combined."  Natalie Balen  player Ontario Volleyball Association

"Dion is considered one of Volleyball's most creative and innovative coaches..."  Ryerson University Honouring Past Head Coach Dion Rugosi

"We won the first ever Girls Volleyball Championship in the 35 year history of Dante Alighieri Catholic High School. Dion helped with great training and coaching, while his daughter Julia (MVP) played great for us. "  Miss Scaffidi Saggio Girls Head Coach Dante Alighieri

"I have become a major passer after not being able to pass at all." Dennis Hofmann Ontario Region 5 Junior Team

"You are definitely the best coach Dennis has ever had".  Gina and Jeff Hofmann Parents

"I ended up hitting 10 times better and near the top of the antennae every time.I got 14 kills from 15 sets. That was unbelievable to me because I've never had those kind of game statistics before. That was such a high lift for my confidence. Thanks." John Mackay Ontario Region 5 Juvenile Team

"When Dion was coaching his son's (John) team, he included our girls team in the practices. Both the boys and the girls team won the championship! I learned a lot of good information! " Ms Torinio Girls Head Coach Stella Maris Elementary

"Dion helped with his son's team here at Stella Maris Elementary School and we won the Championship! I learned a lot. Both Ms Torinio and I continue to use a number of Dion's training techniques and strategies  with great success.  Ms Feldy Boys Head Coach Stella Maris Elementary

"It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot. Your emphasis on passing and mental preparation and the desire to pass the perfect ball and then another until I passed 10 perfect 3's definitely helped to become a better passer."..."The other thing I am extremely grateful for, is that you taught me the 'J Approach'. Until you showed me how to approach the right side, I had difficulty scoring on a bad set, and even on a good set I often got blocked or dug. After you taught me the' J Approach', I became much better at hitting and able to hit almost every set, regardless of where it is." Paul Cheeseman former Captain Ontario Region 5 Juvenile Team

"After all these years, I still use Dion's  "J " on my team." President of one of the longest running OVA youth volleyball clubs.

"I've known Dion since he was volleyball MVP for York University. He is a Master Coach. He is a volleyball author, creative thinker and a great innovator - he was the first to introduce to Ontario: the 3 man block on serve (now banned); a two man service reception with the 5 man identical looking  attack pattern on every play on every rotation, long before the back row spike became popular and used this to defeat the Quebec Provincial Juvenile Team using only a bunch of local juvenile players; rotational combat and its line up wheel; the J Approach; the 7 phases of a Volleyball Play terminology and progression, the Phase 5 Analyze; developed a unique and faster way to train athletes etc.

He goes beyond the local volleyball culture and politics - if you keep recycling what everyone else is doing you might also be recycling the some of the same mistakes. So he has continued to study the latest and best players and coaches worldwide including the FIVB Coach of the Century (Matsudaria) and especially the training methods of OTHER sports besides volleyball. He studies the latest success patterns because success leaves clues. As he says "when you are through improving, you are through".So he continues to study and learn. That is why, he is a great coach." Gord Fordyce former player York University
